9:00am - 9:20am Overview and Introductions
9:20am - 10:10am Automating Angel
Speaker: Joshua Gaul, Instructional Technologist, Empire State College
One of the many strengths of the ANGEL Learning Management System are the built-in tools which assist instructors in the creation of unique personalized learning experiences, along with advanced adaptive release of content. In this presentation, we will explore true-to-life scenarios that use a range of automations to perform advanced tasks in ANGEL. We will discuss the benefits of these through their ease-of-use, continuity, and translation from course-to-course.

10:20am – 11:10am Customizing ANGEL’s Survey Tool to Meet the Needs of Tufts University’s Friedman School’s Course Evaluations
Speaker: Patrick Connell, Senior Instructional Technologist, Tufts University
The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy has adopted the ANGEL learning management system to facilitate courses (online, hybrid and campus-based), manage working groups (student council, alumni executive council, various affinity groups), and provide research projects with a space for file management, communication and collaboration tools. One of the more challenging projects was implementing a customization so ANGEL could function as the Friedman School’s end-of-semester course evaluation tool. This session will cover all aspects of the customization, including the needs assessment, a demo of the custom features, a description of our process for using ANGEL to manage course evaluations, and our experience in working closely with Angel Learning on this customization.
11:10am – 12:00pm Keeping Pace with Technological Change: Cost-Effective Strategies for Faculty Development
Speaker: Paul Cochrane, Director of Course Design and Delivery, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine
The past year has brought significant change to both our online and on-campus faculty as we have transitioned from WebCT 4.1 to ANGEL 7.3. Along the way, we discovered that migrating courses and content was easy; migrating faculty, on the other hand, has brought some unexpected challenges. This workshop will discuss how our faculty development approach has adapted to meet the needs of our faculty in realizing the potential that ANGEL offers, the challenges and opportunities that our new faculty support approach has created, and the results of these efforts to date.
12:00pm - 1:00pm Lunch
1:00pm - 2:00pm ANGEL Update
Speakers:
John Meyer, Senior Manager Software Solutions, Blackboard
Craig Chanoff, Sr. VP of Client Success, Blackboard
Craig and John will present a business update from on the overall merger status between Blackboard and ANGEL Learning. 2:00pm - 2:50pm Using Computerized Exams with ANGEL LMS and Other Systems
Speaker: Jim Neill, Director, Office of Educational Computing and Technology, SUNY Downstate Medical Center
Some campuses are already using computerized exams, while others may question the need for this new evaluation technique. What are the challenges, dangers and rewards? How do various systems for computerized exams compare in capabilities and requirements? This talk will discuss the experience to date at the SUNY Downstate campus in Brooklyn with various systems including the examination tools that are available using ANGEL’s learning management system. We’ll highlight the requirements, implementation and different approaches among the different colleges on our campus.
